Ingredients

  • 6 bratwurst sausages
  • 1 large onion

  • Hot dog buns (we recommend using pretzel buns)
  • Whole-grain mustard
  • Sauerkraut or relish

Instructions:

  1. Wash and dry all produce.
  2. Build a strong fire and lower the grill grate. Clean the grate with a paper towel covered in oil and a set of tongs.
  3. Slice the onion and bell pepper thinly.
  4. Place a large cast iron skillet on the grill and heat. Add in the brats and char, approximately three minutes per side.
  5. Once the brats are seared, toss in bell peppers, onions, and dump in the beer.
  6. Cover and cook until the onions and peppers are soft and caramelized and the beer has reduced and thickened. That should take approximately 20 minutes.
  7. Build your brats by putting one on a toasted pretzel bun and topping with onions, peppers, sauerkraut or relish, and mustard.
